The USDA announced the newest grantees of the Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program’s (GusNIP) Produce Prescription and Nutrition Incentive programs, amounting to $59.4 million in total. GusNIP programs encourage people across the country to eat more healthfully by increasing access to fresh fruits and vegetables. As the National Nutrition Incentive Hub states in their newsletter, "This investment delivers on a commitment made in the Biden-Harris Administration’s National Strategy on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health to improve access to healthy and affordable food."
A total of eight Nutrition Incentive Programs were awarded, totaling $38.7 million dollars. In addition, forty-three Produce Prescription Program projects totaling $20.7 million were awarded through GusNIP. The USDA American Rescue Plan funding helped to support the funding of these projects.
